7 Immortal Ronin is a fusion album set during one of the most violent and transformative eras in Japanese history: the late Sengoku period. By the 1580s, the centuries-long civil war that had ravaged Japan was finally being brought to an end by powerful warlords like Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. However, this “unification” came at a devastating cultural cost.

The album’s narrative focuses on the influx of European technology—specifically the matchlock musket (arquebus)—brought by Portuguese traders. This weapon fundamentally broke the traditional hierarchy of Japanese warfare. A peasant with a few weeks of training could now easily kill a samurai who had dedicated his entire life to the mastery of the blade and the Bushido code.

The tracks follow seven masterless warriors (Ronin) who have survived the destruction of their respective clans. Hiding out in the mountains and navigating the ash-choked ruins of falling fortresses, they are not just fighting the Shogun’s armies; they are grappling with an existential crisis. The album is a dark, introspective, and aggressive exploration of modernization, class struggle, and the loss of spiritual identity, told through a unique sonic blend of 90s boom-bap hip-hop, heavy ambient metal, and traditional Japanese folk instrumentation.
